Making the Case for Music: Call for Contributions

29/03/2012

NAMHE Committee member Dr Caroline Bithell (University of Manchester) makes the following call:

Dear NAMHE member
We face a critical time for the future of Music in higher education. It is difficult to assess what the impact of changes in HE funding might be but there are inevitably fears that, together with other areas of the Arts and Humanities, Music is likely to face increasing pressure as it tries to hold its ground. NAMHE clearly has a role to play in raising awareness of the scope and potential benefits of a contemporary musical education, both in undertaking advocacy work at national level and in supporting departments at institutional level. To this end, we propose to compile a bank of useful facts and figures, together with illustrations of music's cultural and socio-economic importance, that might be used in representations to government and could also be drawn upon by NAMHE members who might need to strengthen their profile within their own universities.

Please send contributions to Caroline.Bithell@manchester.ac.uk.
